Statistical ray optics
نویسنده
چکیده
A statistical approach is taken toward the ray optics of optical media with complicated nonspherical and nonplanar surface shapes. As a general rule, the light in such a medium will tend to be randomized in direction and of 2n (x) times greater intensity than the externally incident light, where n(x) is the local index of refraction. A specific method for doing optical calculations in statistical ray optics will be outlined. These optical enhancement effects can result in a new type of antireflection coating. In addition, these effects can improve the efficiency as well as reduce the cost of solar cells.

Physical Optics Calculation of Electromagnetic Scattering From Haack Series Nose Cone
In this paper, the physical optics method is used to study the problem of electromagnetic scattering from Haack series nose cone. First, a meshing scheme is introduced which approximates the curvature of the surface by piecewise linear functions in both axial and rotational directions. This results in planar quadrilateral patches and enables efficient determination of the illuminated region and...
متن کاملConfidence intervals for the encircled energy fraction and the half-energy width.
The encircled energy fraction and its quantiles, notably the half-energy width, are routinely used to characterize the quality of x-ray optical systems. They are, however, always quoted without a statistical error. We show how nonparametric statistical methods can be used to redress this situation, and we discuss how the knowledge of the statistical error can be used to speed up the characteriz...

A method is described which elucidates propagation of an electromagnetic field generated by a stochastic, electromagnetic source within the short wavelength limit. The results can be used to determine statistical properties of fields using ray tracing methods.

A sol-gel technique under ultrasonic irradiation was applied to synthesize ZrO2/TiO2/ZnOnanocomposites. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of nanocomposites. The strain and crystalline size values of ZrO2/TiO2/ZnO nanocomposites are estimated to be 9.98×10-4 and 17.66 nm, respectively. The linear absorption coefficient of ZrO2/TiO2/ZnO nanocomposites was measure...
